The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia; Russian: Чемпиона́т ми́ра по футбо́лу FIFA 2018） The 21st FIFA World Cup was held from June 14th to July 15th, 2018 at 12 stadiums in 11 cities in Russia. This is the first time the World Cup has been held in Russia, and also the first time the World Cup has been held in an Eastern European country.

On July 16, 2018, the French team defeated the Croatian team 4-2 in the final of the tournament, lifting the World Cup trophy for the first time in 20 years. The Croatian team also achieved their best result in team history (runner up) at the World Cup. Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, English striker Harry Kane, and Belgian goalkeeper Thibault Courtois respectively won the Ballon d'Or, Golden Boot, and Golden Glove awards; French forward Kylian Mbappe won the Best Rookie award.
